WEEK 5: STUDIO WORK

DATE: 14/08/08
TIME: 11.00-12.30PM
VENUE: C25-5051
Attendance: Absent: Yusof

1. Concept 1:
a. No extra mounting on the middle of the motor. Best to have 2 point restriction on the wheel only.
b. No oscillating due to suspension spring.
Ideal (additional )
c. Rack and pinion usage to replace the middle suspension mounting
d. Try to apply the concept used for arcade game motor simulator

2. Concept 2
a. Same problem with concept 1. Cannot use suspension due to oscillation.
b. Replace spring to actuators. 2 actuators used for roll. Remove spring.
c. Realize concept cannot be yaw. Motor tire need to be mounted on the platform. The platform is mounted onto another platform with bearing and shaft to allow yaw motion.
d. Yaw motion use wire and motor.

3. Concept 3
a. If suspension is replace with actuators, motor wont needed for yaw motion. Need a shaft in the middle of the platform for stability.

4. Concept 4
a. No mounting in the middle of motor. Change the fixed middle point to the front shaft.

Job separation
1. Fahmi and Yusof: Find a motor picture and label the dimension of the motorcycle. Honda C70
2. Hsiao Ling: Draw motor use solidwork. Find an example of motor solidwork online.
3. Kim Heng and Yap: concept re-evaluate and research

WEEK 2 STUDIO WORK

Date:24 July 2008

Task was reassigned

a. Fahmi: material and costing as well as chassis design

b. Yusof: body movement

c. Tan: math analysis

d. Lee: Usage and actuators

e. Yap: DOF and simulation.

2. Due date and time: Friday 25/07/08 9 pm

3. If there are any problem arises, a meeting will be held on Saturday before due date of the assignment.

WEEK 2 MEETING

Date: 24/7/08
Place: C23- 5041
Time: 10.15- 11.00 am

1. Report on latest progress
a. Tan : found 2 suitable books for the project
i. Motorcycle chassis design: The theory and practice
ii. Vehicle Stability (mathematical requirement)
b. Lee: Extracted the most common usage and actuators used for motorcycle simulators. Did a table for actuators comparison.
c. Yap: Found 4 main aspects for motorcycle simulators which are turning, balance, braking and vibration. Suggested better to have a non-fixed platform to have a better experience. Suggested to narrow down the age and weight range of Malaysian.

2. Members suggested include more pictures in the report of the background of study to have a better visualization for member and other readers.

3. Fahmi reported to the project manager that there are no relevant materials that can be used for the assignment. Project manager suggested that the material used can be based on the real motor chassis material which can be used from the book.

4. Yusof reported on the body movement when riding and explain on the fall analysis to the project manager.

5. Work done will be uploaded into the group website.

WEEK 3 - STUDIO WORK

Date: 29/07/08
Time: 4.00- 6.00pm

1. Assigned new task to start on product design specification.
a. Fahmi: It is difficult to find the costing of the whole simulator. It is suggested that it is better to concentrate o finding cost for separate parts (e.g. bike, screen, projector, actuators)
b. Yap and lee: concentrating on the technical part of the PDS. Lee will be searching from the old information obtained and Yap will look for more new info from the net.
c. Tan: will be searching for standards required for motor, actuators, etc. from the library.
d. Yap: Ergonomics.
e. Lee and Yusof: assembly and disassembly. Yusof will be concentrating on the new info from the net and Lee will concentrate on old info obtained previously.

2. Next meeting will be held 9 pm 30 July 2008 at library.
